Real-Time Streaming Explained

You might have heard of Real-Time Streaming, but what exactly is it and why should those in the offshore energy, marine science, aquaculture, and other ocean tech industries be using it?

SubC has been offering Real-Time Streaming as a subscription software solution since 2020. We recently upgraded our software to simultaneously stream up to four cameras, so we thought it was the perfect time to explain what SubC’s Real-Time Streaming has to offer.

What is Real-Time Streaming?

SubC’s Real-Time Streaming is a cloud-based service supported by desktop software that provides secure, low-latency live HD subsea camera and audio feeds from ROVs and other underwater systems. In other words, it’s an easy-to-use offshore-to-shoreside system that allows you to remotely view and present a live stream from your offshore assets, or targets, directly to your offices and operational teams or clients, no matter their location.

Why is Real-Time Streaming Important?

Get Information Faster

Data can be streamed at any time, providing quick access to information. This is especially important for critical and time-sensitive projects and needs.

Accelerate Decision Making

Connect teammates or stakeholders with offshore assets at any time. No more waiting in order to make decisions.

Reduce Environmental Impact And Improve Crew Safety

Real-Time Streaming allows for the use of unmanned vessels, which require less fuel and reduce the need for crew to work in remote or dangerous locations. For applications like Observatory Systems, it may eliminate the need for vessels altogether to gather and review footage.

Reinvest In Other Priorities

Saving costs on vessels and crew allows you to reinvest in other priorities.

Risk Mitigation

Because you can view your footage at any time, you can increase the security and mitigate any risks related to your offshore assets, inspections, or targets.

How Does Real-Time Streaming Work?

Set up

Real-Time Streaming can be set up and running in just five minutes. Simply download and install the software on your computer or log in to your account anywhere in the world to stream.

Process

Our streaming application sends offshore video sources to a secure cloud server. Then, from the secure cloud server, your video feeds are sent to your secure SubC streaming account. Once video feeds are online you can access them anywhere in the world. Simply log in to your secure account to monitor and assist offshore operations via video, audio comms and data feeds and to set up presentations for your team, clients, or stakeholders.

Presentations

Real-Time Streaming allows you to set up presentations, which is what your end viewers will be able to see. You can have multiple, simultaneous viewing with two-way audio communications.

How Can You Use Real-Time Streaming?

Real-Time Streaming can be used in a variety of industries but its application is becoming a must-have for remote offshore inspection. There are three main ways this offshore streaming software can help you with remote inspections (get the full details here).

Present Live Inspections

Present live video from a camera on an ROV or diver directly to clients shoreside so they can make timely decisions based on relevant data.

Conduct Remote Inspections

Deliver real-time data while conducting your inspections remotely. Reduce the number of crew and add to your bottom line.

 Pilot Vessels for Remote Inspections

Go fully autonomous by streaming video while remote piloting your vessels, including USV and ROVs.
